Starting Point Outpatient Inc was founded in January 2015 in order to work with adult SUD on the idea that anyone seeking recovery success should be given the opportunity without barriers or burdens related to cost. Here nobody is turned away for those reasons. Clients who attend services with us receive understanding and encouragement to be the best they they can be and are provided education,  employment services and training, Peer support recovery and counseling services so they can be and stay successful.

We offer alumni services for those who struggle periodically which allows them to attend groups or visit with the team. We offer Friday fun night at 1402 Main in Joplin from 8-11pm at the ROCC to encourage healthy activities and also provide no cost meals during these events. Our goal is to allow each individual to gain new living skills to enhance their life, as well as, tools to continue beyond treatment with a successful ongoing recovery.

We added adolescent and family services in December of 2019 and are a fully operational 501c3 nonprofit organization. We are also fully certified through the Missouri Department of Mental and Behavioral Health and Federal US Courts.

Souls Harbor in Joplin, Missouri is a nonprofit organization that serves individuals and families experiencing homelessness by providing safety, stability, and practical support aimed at helping people move off the streets. Founded in 1982, the organization has long been part of the local response to homelessness, working alongside community partners to address both immediate needs and longer term challenges.

A key focus of Souls Harbor is transitional housing. Rather than operating solely as an emergency shelter, it helps people stabilize their situations and work toward permanent housing. Guests are provided a safe place to stay, basic necessities, and a structured environment designed to support progress and self sufficiency. This approach allows people time and space to regroup, find employment or income, and reconnect with support systems.

Souls Harbor also operates a warming center during periods of extreme cold, opening its doors when temperatures drop below 32 degrees. This service provides a critical layer of protection for people who might otherwise be exposed to dangerous winter conditions. The warming center plays an important role in preventing cold related injuries and deaths during severe weather.

In addition to shelter and housing support, Souls Harbor helps connect guests with practical resources that are often major barriers to stability. This includes assistance with obtaining identification documents, which are essential for employment, housing applications, and benefits. The organization also helps coordinate bus tickets for individuals who have a safe place to return to outside the area, supporting family reunification or relocation when appropriate.

Souls Harbor works closely with local partners to connect people to recovery services, including substance use treatment and other supportive programs. By helping individuals access these services, the organization supports long term stability and reduces the likelihood of repeated homelessness.

The organization also operates a free store and pantry that provide clothing, food, and emergency items at no cost. Individuals can access essential items such as seasonal clothing, hygiene supplies, and basic household goods, reducing immediate hardship and helping people maintain dignity during times of crisis. The pantry offers supplemental food support, which can be especially important for individuals who are newly homeless or at risk of losing housing.

While Souls Harbor is a faith based organization and operates a chapel on site, its services are focused on meeting real world needs and helping people take concrete steps forward. Through transitional housing, emergency cold weather response, and strong connections to community resources, Souls Harbor continues to be an important part of Joplin’s network of care for people experiencing homelessness.
